All of the lolitas by secondlina All of the lolitas by secondlina
I've been wanting to draw a few things about Lolitas lately, as in the Japanese fashion trend, not the novel. It's a fashion trend I adore, because it's basically like small pockets of history, walking around, inspired by Rococo and Victorian fashion and design. I wanted to draw two posters, one showing the different types of Lolitas, and the other showing the proper layering required to achieve the Lolita look. So far, i've only done the "type" one, but it's a good start!

Technically, only 4 "types" are actual types, the others are more like themes. The main 4 types are classic, punk, gothic and sweet.

I never had the courage to dress up as a lolita myself, but I love looking at all the magazines...

This is very cute, not to mention helpful for remembering the types! I didn't even know Qi existed before. Personally, my favorites are Gothic, Punk, and Wa.

What's qi? Is it like Asian-style lolita?

Qi Lolita is a style very similar to Wa Lolita but instead of being inspired by the Japanese traditional styles, it is influenced by Chinese traditional wear (e. g. Qipao), culture and other things related to the styles and influences. It is not generally worn and is considered a "special occasion" or even cosplay Lolita style by most.

As long as you construct it properly and you educated red in sewing, then they shouldn't be to hard to make. As long as you have patience, it's tedious work but less expensive than purchasing a dress.

This is cute, but not very accurate. Harajuku, casual, shiro, and kuro are not actually styles of Lolita, although many people believe they are. Shiro and Kuro Lolita are actually just another style of Lolita in one solid color. They aren't actual styles themselves. Casual Lolita is just a toned-down version of another style. These three can be considered sub-styles, if even that. And Harjuku Lolita, well that's just Lolita with mis-matched colors.
Now then, although it's inaccurate, the drawings themselves are absolutely adorable and the coloring is really cute.

Thanks for the comment! Actually, if you check the artist comment, "Technically, only 4 "types" are actual types, the others are more like themes." is stated. I am aware that Harajuku, casual, shiro, and kuro are not real styles, but just a color choice. I chose not do a clear separation on the poster itself, but I have included links allowing people to gain more information regarding the fashion movement. That said, thanks for taking the time to type that, I appreciate your efforts to inform!

Ah, that makes sense. Well, I appreciate you replying to my comment in such a pleasant way. I know too many people that would have gotten upset. I'll be sure to read more carefully next time. ^w^

Feel free to check out the commentaries! :) Often the artist comment is complementary to the piece, so even reading it really fast can give the viewer some extra info, info that is, most of the time, pretty awesome.

I'd hate to be rude to a fellow Lolita lover. Or to anyone, really.

I guess it would have made more sense to separate the types from the volor choices on the poster, but it was much less aesthetically pleasing. On another version i'll be sure to do that. :)

Yes, I'll be sure to do that in the future X3

And thank you, I really appreciate that. I'm not a Lolita yet (too broke to buy anything) but I've certainly done my research. Us Lolita fans have to stick together <3

Yeas, I thought that too. And a stylistically accurate one would be absolutely wonderful ^w^ It'd help out a lot of people~

I've been wanting to design posters about lolitas for a while, this was my first serious stab at it. I'm pretty sure i'll re-draw it a couple of times in my life for sure, if only to reflect how the style evolves.
